“Following
Jesus: Celebrating Life; Welcoming All.”
Morning
Worship in Lent
We
Prepare
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your
praise.
Hear our voice, O Lord, according to your faithful love,
according to your judgement give us
life.
Blessed are you, God of compassion and mercy,
to you be praise and glory for ever.
In the darkness of our sin,
your light breaks forth like the dawn
and your healing springs up for deliverance.
As we rejoice in the gift of your saving help,
sustain us with your bountiful Spirit
and open our lips to sing your praise.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God for ever.
Let us pray
We hold a moment of silent
prayer.
Almighty God,
to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your
Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love
you,
and worthily magnify your
holy name; through Christ our Lord.
Amen
We
Confess
The sacrifice of God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart God will not despise. Let us
come to the Lord, who is full of compassion, and acknowledge our transgressions
in penitence and faith.
We hold a time of silence as we invite the Holy Spirit to
reveal to us our failure to love.
Lord our God,
in our sin we have avoided your call.
Our love for you is like a morning cloud,
like the dew that goes away early.
Have mercy on us;
deliver us from judgement;
bind up our wounds and revive us;
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
May the loving Father who sent His Son into the world to
save sinners, bring us His pardon and peace, now and forever. Amen.
We listen to the Word of God
First Reading
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be
to God
We pause for a time of reflection.
The Psalm
At the end of the Psalm we say:
Glory to the Father and to
the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever.
Amen
Second Reading
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be
to God
Reflection
Our Faith
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen
Prayers
Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing that you have made
and forgive the sins of all those who
are penitent:
create and make in us new and contrite hearts
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may receive from you, the God of all
mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for
ever.
Amen
We are led in prayers of
intercession…
The Collect of the Day
The Lord’s Prayer
Trusting in the compassion of
God,
let us pray with confidence
as our Saviour
has taught us:
Our Father, who art in
heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our
trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen
The Conclusion
Almighty God,
by the prayer and discipline of Lent
may we enter into the mystery of
Christ’s sufferings,
and by following in his Way
come to share in his glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
The
Blessing
Christ give you grace to grow in holiness,
to deny yourselves, take up your cross, and follow him; and
the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be with us today and
forever.
Amen
May God our Redeemer show us compassion and love.
Amen
